Umm…first of…Charlize Theron, I love you. Second…Tori Magna Theron 2023 Prop Red…I. Love. You. TOOOO!!! This is the second wine we’ve featured from BOB LEVY-trained Sean Foster under his Tori Magna label. And just like before…my tasting notes cut right to the heart of it
Red. Classy. Soft, ripe, and JUICY with an easy-going drinkability.
I busted this beauty out at Bocce on Halloween Eve (how was that already 5 days ago?!), and man did this ever show up to play! (Sadly, I did not, and a certain winemaker from a historic Spring Mountain winery was all too happy to mop the floor with me in an act of revenge for a handful of offers you may have seen recently.) Anywho…94 POINTS!!! Way, WAY under $25, too – and that’s what we need to talk about here. How often can you find Rutherford AVA, Single Vineyard, 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, at a full-stop 75% OFF, and just an unreal, borderline unnatural, 100% out of this world deal?!
Hint…not often. And in the remarkable 2023 vintage? I mean, C’MON!!! Certain Cab Blends need YEARS on the rack, or in the cellar to really get going – but this is all about popping corks, kicking butt, and fighting communism in Cold War-era East Germany. Rip-roaring and ready-to-rock red fruits – like little red cherries, and alpine strawberries, then some mulberry and tart plums, with this elegant frame supported by cedar, and rosemary, with white pepper and sage…so good, and so immediately compelling! YES! My bocce team drained it in near record time – and even forgave me for my terrible rolling. The perfect match for some mustard-glazed pork chops…but pretty fantastic with pepperoni pizza too.
There’s never enough of this to go around, and at the HANDS-DOWN best price in the USA… whatever are you waiting for?

** Fall Champagne trip 2025 is just ok…I guess. Lunch and blind tastings with three generations of the Bonneville/Ruelle-Dudel family, followed by a visit to their incredible caves deep under Avize, where they popped open a 1959 Bonneville Champagne that was without question the BEST old Champagne I’ve ever tasted…woe is me!!! **
