Phone Booth Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands 2024
Adam Lee in THE HOUSE! A brand new, KILLER Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir – UNDER $20 and a fresh 94 POINT score!
“The Santa Lucia Highlands is a throwback to earlier times. Here, growers can tell you stories about what vintages were like because their fathers told them what the bean harvest was like in a certain year. In the SLH, grandchildren learn their numbers by counting clusters on vines. And sustainability isn't a catchword; rather, it really means farming the land in a way where it can be passed down from generation to generation." – Adam Lee
In case you were wondering why Adam Lee sold his stake in SIDURI and renewed his focus on small production, artisan-crafted Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays made entirely on his own terms…here. You. GOOOOOO!!!
Phone Booth PINOT, good people! For you young’uns – that was a little stand-up coffin they used to place on street corners so you could make a call in private before the days of mobile phones…and no…they weren’t all time machines like Dr. Who. This FIRST EVER bottling is the coolest new S.L.H. project I’ve tasted in YEARS – and with a first effort 94 POINTS from Decanter – it seems I’m not alone in that sentiment.
“The vineyards sourced for this wine are blue-chip estates in the Santa Lucia Highlands, though confidentiality agreements prevent their disclosure. I’ll admit, dear reader, they did tell me – and if you knew, you’d be all over this…” – Decanter
Get out of my brain, Decanter! See, I ALSO know the vineyards (I know a guy) and trust me – if you made a list of the Ten BEST vineyards in Santa Lucia Highlands – SIX of them are found in this bottle. When you're Adam Lee, that kind of magic just happens, I guess. This kind of pedigree – plus the puritanical Pinot style of Adam that eschews crutches like Mega Purple, oak chips, and sticky-sweet levels of residual sugar – gets you something entrancing, and thoughtful, and SO very delicious – all at a completely BONKERS UNDER $20 price!
It caresses like liquid silk, with come-hither notes of violets and rose, then hints of cranberry tea, before cascading gorgeously into a mouthful of cherries and berries, an entire molten fountain of luscious milk chocolate, and percolating accents of orange zest, cinnamon red hots, and even a little dash of freshly grated nutmeg. It’s bold, but delicately so, with a long, spicy finish that fades away gracefully like a Michael Jordan buzzer-beater. I mean…94 POINTS! At this sort of price?! Adam Lee, you have done it AGAIN!
