Sorry, I’m a terrible Oompa-Loompa. But dry, searingly fresh, hyper-aromatic white wines that explode from the glass?! That’s my JAM! The pink grapefruit! Loads of lemon and lime! That life-giving minerally, river-rocky edge! Ok, breathe, just breathe…a brief history lesson: Dr. Hermann Müller went all Frankenstein and first created this mash-up grape variety in 1882 at the Geisenheim Grape Breeding Institute in Germany, using riesling and Madeleine Royale as his muses. He wanted the intensity and complexity of riesling, and the early ripening qualities of Madeleine Royale (it typically harvests in mid-July) – and the result has been a grape that is relatively easy to grow and shows insane levels of mineral, fruit, and floral complexities when grown and developed in a high-quality way!

Speaking of which, Washington’s Öömrang is doing high quality across ALL fronts! Sustainable, ORGANIC, cutting-edge tech…they’ve got it going on, and then some! Ok, ok, enough jibber-jabber…did you lock in your case?!? Medium-bodied and brightly fruit-packed with more layers than a Tibetan honeycomb – with that glorious medley of citrus, poached pears, and salted peach slices, plus some blossom-y and floral aromatics, and that steely undertone of a mountain stream…this is a THRILL to sip on, and goes down way, WAY too easily! Müller-Thurgau has yet to make it big here in the USA – but damned if I don’t think Öömrang is the next big white wine producer that you’ll be STOKED to bust out at your next gathering!
