Meteor Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Special Family Reserve Napa Valley 2005
The Meteor's keep on rolling on this fun day Sunday!!!
Meteor’s Inaugural release of their estate flagship bottling – for HUNDREDS less than the winery’s price and a full $70+ less than you can find ANYWHERE else!Â
Ok, so 92+ is a good yet not great score – at least by today’s standards. But…BUT!!! This was the mid-2000s, when anything over a 90 was incredible, and a DOUBLE 92+ for a brand new wine, from a brand new winery – that was almost unheard of! And then – there’s the kicker…while Robert Parker called it “impressive” with a “somewhat Graves-like nuance”, Antonio Galloni followed up with this little nugget: “...still needs a few years to sweeten and soften in bottle and may ultimately merit an even higher score.” BOOM. Mic drop. They never went back, at least officially, but we did…and my word, was it ever an EXPERIENCE!!! This rich and luscious barrel selection had the concentration of tannins to age gracefully, and that profound mineral edge to Coombsville Cabs has faded to the background as of late – allowing bold and ripe plum, and cherry fruits to step into the limelight! 2005 has long been one of my favorite “library vintages” of old Napa to revisit – and this one is standing strong and proud a full two decades into its life. For well over 60% OFF, this is essentially a collector’s vino – but one I wouldn’t mind drinking on the regular, to be certain!!!Â
Snag some history!Â
