McKahn Family Cellars Red Morning Glass Sierra Foothills 2020
Beep, beep, y’all! Time to back up the truck on this one! If you snagged any of this before, you’re already on your way to a full cart checkout, but if – by some cosmic chance – you don’t know McKahn Family Cellars already…you’re gonna want to listen up! 57% OFF and WAY under $20…get ready for your CALI-RED of the summer!!!
$15. FIFTEEN DOLLARS! That’s the BEST price anywhere folks, and I tell you…it ain’t even close! For a slam-dunk, Jordan in the 4th quarter, can’t-miss red blend?!?! This is LIGHTS OUT, people! Over HALF OFF, too, with a solid 91 points from the good folks at Wine Enthusiast. My boy, Chuck McKahn is a phenom...I call him the anti-stormtrooper – ‘cause he simply can’t MISS! Chose winemaking at 15, graduated from Cal Poly’s famed Enology program while simultaneously working harvests before moving up to Napa and catching a prime gig as a cellar hand under the LEGENDARY Phillip Titus at the historic CHAPPELLET Vineyard on Pritchard Hill. In a scant 5 years, he had worked his way up to Assistant Winemaker. Phillip's recommendation saw Chuck taking over as head winemaker at nearby William Harrison soon after that, and Chuck was, as they say, on his way.
Built to commemorate those early mornings spent on the pristinely smooth lake, Morning Glass is a silky smooth blend of 60% grenache, 38% petit verdot, and 2% malbec. I don’t water ski (thanks to my 90-year-old knees) but I’ll certainly take a glass o’ this ANY morning!!! The wine just explodes out of the glass, bursting with red cherries, red currants, crushed raspberries, mulberries – it’s a ramble of bramble, folks! Throw in some soft and spicy baking seasonings like all-spice, clove, and some whispers of black pepper, with a kiss of some freshly cut herbs, and some decadent milk chocolate notes...and...IT’S GONE! Seriously easy to drink and viscerally pleasing at every turn, there’s nothing you could want more in a prime daily drinker. Burgers? Oh, yes. Grill time shenanigans? That too. And THE PRICE?!?! Still just $15, my friends! Load up that truck while we have it!
** Chuck let me taste his first-ever wine for this label back in 2015 when we both were at Chappellet. It was a killer, baby-Crozes style of syrah, and in that moment, I knew he’d be cruising along just fine solo – making killer wines like this. And I was right! **
