2023 in DA HOUSE! Isola delle Falcole’s Olive Oil is soooo freaking delicious, we had to fill up an entire container to go with all that delectable TUSCAN vino we ordered a few months back. And…guess what just ARRIVED?!?!Â
YES!!! Let’s do this all again! Gourmands! Foodies! Wanna-be chefs, actual chefs, from fine-dining lovers to late-night mac-n-cheese warriors…you are not READY! Seriously, I might be eating and drinking my way through Ireland at the moment, but I took the lead from my boy, Ema Graetz, and smuggled my own EVOO from Isola delle Falcole into Erin’s Isle! Don’t get me wrong…I LOVE Irish butter – best in the world, but my doctor says my Thanksgiving input straight up maxed me out until 2026 – and nothing says “heart healthy” like the greatest olive oil ANYWHERE!Â
STUPENDOUS, completely addictive, and that absolute perfect balance of creamy, buttery richness and that peppery, uplifting zip that makes a little drizzle of olive oil bring everything on your plate to life! Ema sent me home from my visit to Tuscany with a 2-gallon jug of this delectable new bottling – and I’m not ashamed to say it – I left a pair of shoes and my third favorite pair of underwear in Tuscany so I could fit this in my suitcase!Â
8 hectares of olive trees, all surrounding the idyllic, unbelievably charming winery set right between Panzano and Montefioralle. This is the heart of Chianti Classico, my own private heaven on earth, and this is an olive oil to be poured on EVERYTHING! The orchards are split between two prized varieties – ancient and much-loved Italian greats – the revered Moraiolo and Leccino olives. Known for their intensity and unending complexity, not to mention their OFF-THE-CHARTS levels of anti-oxidants.Â
Quickly cold-pressed mechanically (as all the best olive oils are) to preserve the delicate aromas, and picked ripe, but early to capture that vibrant freshness, while avoiding any greenness or bitterness in the final product. The fresh-cut grass, the fruity sensations of stone fruits and lemony zestiness, with the BURSTING pop of green peppercorns, and fresh-cracked black pepper, with a little red-pepper-flakes heat…just ASTOUNDING! Aglio e Olio spaghettini is the PERFECT dish to make this shine, but really, truly, touch-blue-make-it-true, you CANNOT go wrong adding this to damn near EVERYTHING! Gelato? Yes. Grass-fed ribeye? Yes. A decadent little float on your classic martini? You bet.Â
