This Brut bubbly has been a house-staple for years – and stands as the winery’s FLAGSHIP blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Some years back, I was dating a girl who had just started in the Iron Horse tasting room – and one of that little fling’s best perks was the half-full bottles of Classic Vintage Brut brought back to my front porch on the regular! Heck, I enjoyed it so much, I even married the lass! I mean – KILLER bubbly wasn’t the ONLY reason…but it sure didn’t hurt!Â
Anywho – that is ancient history (still got the girl, though!), and I’m talking about RIGHT NOW! 91 POINTS from Wine Spectator, and a frequent entry on their annual TOP 100 list – this 2020 vintage is about as “CHAMPAGNE-ESQUE” as Cali-bubbly gets. 3+ years on the lees, zippy, fresh acidity, and gorgeously ripe fruit that is never cloying. This straight up SLAYS, and my only wish is we had twice as much to share! The energetic *POP* of the cork is followed by a wave of orchard fruits and coastal wild flowers, with that buttery brioche aroma that gets my mouth watering. From there, a cascade of Grammy’s apple pie, with ginger, and key lime, with a lingering honeysuckle and toasted almond note that brings this happily home. All the pleasure of Champagne – with a soul that is uniquely Sonoma. At the BEST PRICE in the country? Welp, that sure doesn’t hurt!Â
