Fidélitas Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Quintessence Vineyard Red Mountain 2019

Fidélitas Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Quintessence Vineyard Red Mountain 2019

Under $25 for single vineyard mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Washington’s TOP winemakers...YES!!!

Veni. Vidi. Vici.

Julius Caesar isn’t the only one who came, saw, and conquered! Fidélitas’s Charlie Hoppes paid his dues, crafting wines for decades under the likes of Antinori, Buena Vista, and Château Ste. Michelle, before building a new empire on the slopes of Washington’s revered Red Mountain. He chose the name Fidélitas as a pledge of loyalty to the Bordeaux grapes – and Cabernet Sauvignon is his Pantheon. These wines routinely score tons of praise from top critics – and the young vines of Quintessence vineyard – on the rocky slopes of Red Mountain – are starting to become legends in their own right!

Vinous Media’s Eric Guido summed it up best several years back, saying, “This is a big wine, but I love the balance here. That said, it will require a number of years to come fully into focus.” This excerpt, from one of the TRIPLE 92 POINT reviews on this beauty, hits the core of the style here. It was taut, and mineral, and cool, with a structure that was more angular than round – at least, such was the case three years ago when this was first reviewed. WAS. That’s the keyword here, folks, because six years since harvest, and these young vines have stretched their legs considerably! They are flat-out sprinting here and now, with a perfect assortment of rich berry fruit, and bushels of spice – not to mention, gorgeously integrated French oak accents – carrying this sleeper surprise into one of my personal favorite Cabernets of the summer!

It’s big, but no longer brooding – like that wayward teenager that came back from a year abroad all worldly, and interesting, and far more intriguing than you ever thought possible. Black berries and cherries of all sorts and sizes, with this cool, minty, and graphite edge, followed by wave after wave of exotic spice like clove, and green cardamom, with flecks of coffee, and whispers of new saddle leather, and fresh pipe tobacco. Cocoa nibs and black pepper come alive on the finish, and the finish is longer than the lifespan of a Roman road. This has evolved fantastically – and you’re gonna want to join me in seeing where this goes next! Now or ten years from now…this is something special to savor – especially at our absolutely INSANE price of just $24!!!
