Alright, here’s the skinny – the estate, the facilities (plus a rather $$$$ injection for upgraded equipment), and most importantly, those extra special, seriously ancient vines (up to 130 years old!) are now Domaine le Prieuré des Papes. ORGANIC. Bio-dynamic. Off-the-hook delicious. SAVORY, complex, layered, and packed with flavor. It does all this with BALANCE and vibrancy. 94+ points, over $50 below retail!!!
Woohoo! The 2019 vintage Châteauneuf??? Just an ALL-TIME great!!! These old vines (mostly grenache, with a solid hunk of mourvedre) are strutting – brilliant and pure CdP character that needs no adornment...that means NO new oak, all concrete fermentations, with this ample and inky concentration distilled purely from the old vine fruit! Powerfully intense old-school CdP greatness – just exploding with the essence of kirsch, raspberries, blackberries, spiced mulberries, lavender pastilles, spicy white pepper, and fresh clay earth after a summer downpour – YES!!! Don’t forget those deeply satisfying sweet roasted herbs, and fresh pipe tobacco, and…AND! Glides across the tongue like over-priced Grand Cru Red Burgundy…but nowhere near those prices! Youthful, powerful, and utterly vibrant. Keep it around for a decade plus too, if you go for that sort of thing!!! This is a first effort that leaves us trembling with excitement for what's to come with one of our long-standing favorite Rhone properties…so what are you waiting for?!?! 94+ POINTS!
