Nuits-Saint-Georges is a prized plot of the Côte d’Or, just south of Vosne-Romanee, and roughly halfway between Burgundy’s two largest cities of Dijon and Beaune. Nicolas Potel was in the process of taking over his family’s negociant business, when he found that along the path of Burgundy’s cobblestone roads, going door to door in search of grower partners – quite a few prized plots were willing to sell! Better a life-long Frenchman with a respected family-run wine business than outsiders looking to make a quick buck, am I right?! So Nicolas started buying up parcels – and before you know it…he had his own DOMAINE!
Best part?! It ROCKS!!! This 2020 old vines Pinot Noir is dark, enchanting, and simply redolent with baked strawberries, crushed raspberries, a jolt of Assam black tea, with some alpine grassy-ness, and a tart SMACK of pomegranate right out the gate! A truly enthralling Nuits-Saint-Georges that is velvety, but with a fearsome backbone of fine tannins to make youthful filly go the distance – nevermind the Derby, this has the Belmont Stakes sort of length and endurance in the bag, baby! Three different parcels, all organically farmed, to make a paltry 710 cases of one life-changing Burgundy! Sound the bugle, dear huntsman! Barely enough for an offer – so don’t trot…GALLOP to your cart and go for the roses, baby!
