Crosby Roamann Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2019
95 POINTS! Unbelievably tiny micro-production, using primo parcels of fruit from both St. Helena and Coombsville. Under $30, too?Â
YES!!! When THE Karen MacNeil, esteemed author of The Wine Bible, you know – that go-to, simply indispensable resource for basically anyone even loosely affiliated with wine – when she gives a completely off-the-radar micro-winery like Crosby Roamann 95 POINTS on a 450 case cabernet sauvignon AND includes it in her "Ten Super Impressive Napa Cabs" article on Winespeed...you just know I’m gonna geek out and freak out like a 10 year-old science nerd at Space Camp! Yes!!! Â
Crosby Roamann started in Brooklyn (yes, that Brooklyn) back in 2007, relying heavily on what founders Sean and Juliana McBride call their “prayer and bootstrap” method. So far so good – as they are crafting some fantastic wines that are garnering some serious critical praise – Karen MacNeil, Robert Parker, Jeb Dunnuck, Forbes…you name it! This impressive and decidedly “old-school” cabernet is right up my alley – balanced, bright, and just a little dusty. Great now, but even more EPIC in another few years. Savory and juicy in equal measure, with black plums, and smoked meats, some saddle leather, a kiss of anise seed and peppercorn spice, with a gentle whisper of toasty oak and smokey hay. Tingly acidity and the ever-so-slight-hair below full-bodied demeanor makes this the penultimate dinner companion – maybe a bit of steak frites at your local fave Frenchie bistro? Oui, oui!Â
The fruit for this ripping Cab flows into their tiny winery in Napa from both the Harmony School vineyard in Coombsville and a top-secret, unnamed site in St. Helena. Their reserve cabernet has now surpassed the $270 price point, making this gem – with much of the fruit from the same vineyard – an even bigger steal! Over 68% Off on 95 POINT Napa Cab is bound to vanish quickly…even on the Sunday before Christmas – so be a good little elf and grab yours while you can!Â
