Champagne Gardet Cuvée Charles Gardet Prestige Brut Premier Cru 2006
The Iron Horse sparkling was too good to be true as it rode off into the sunset, but how about this vintage Champagne to follow it up.....
"The night they invented champagne
It's plain as it can be
They thought of you and me
The night they invented champagne
They absolutely knew
that all we'd want to do
Is fly to the sky on champagne…." - Gigi
Nailed it! That song is from 1958! OK, ok, WOW! So, we drink a lot of the excellent Gardet wines at home anyway, right, it’s a Last Bottle staple and customer uber-fave, with the mind-boggling pricing, etc etc. So, I gave my wife a glass of this the other night, and she’s like "WHOA WHAT IS THIS!? AND GIVE ME MORE." It’s Gardet’s BIG GUN cuvee, and lusciously fantastic, but….but….
….it’s NOT $125. Nope, not even half that. Totally unreal, non-real, anti-real. 2006 vintage, Grand Cru and Premier Cru grapes (70% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot), and simply one of our all-time best Champagne scores ever. LOAD UP! I did…in fact, I might need to borrow the Last Bottle van to get it home. Please, good people, don’t miss!
What’s it LIKE?! Well, in this single-vintage cuvee, everything’s upped to 11. Not really, the balance is superb and it’s so seamless, but there’s just more of the creaminess, the intensity, the toasty hazelnut, lemon curd, and stone fruit character, apricots, croissants, and crushed shells….long and lingering and oh-so happy-making. THE PRICE! It defies logic. As you might imagine, they make a LOT less of this high-end cuvee, so grab it while you can…single-vintage bubbly at this level does but RARELY come around at all!!
