Hot DAMN, people! Remember those old “Bo knows” Nike ads? Bo knows baseball. Bo knows football. Welp.. THIS Bo knows CABERNET SAUVIGNON! And Heidi Barrett? The unquestioned QUEEN of Napa Cab – I think it’s safe to say she knows a fair bit herself! (Pretty sure the folks at Screaming Eagle, Dalle Valle, Kenzo, Grace Family, and countless others would be more than happy to vouch for her if you’re just recently returned from your off-the-grid desert island these past thirty years.) Fresh and lively even at 8 years young, this sleeping beauty is just waking up, and ready to impress for another two decades to come! Juicy blackberries, and black currants, with tart, fresh-plucked plums, and accents of clove, and allspice berries, with a lingering note of graphite, and charred, volcanic earth. There’s focus and precision to spare, with a delicate and elegant oak influence that guides rather than dominates. The pristine soils of Jericho Canyon’s Toll Road estate vineyard have this BURSTING with terroir-driven expression, and the sort of layered complexity that reminds me of Heidi’s early efforts with Lamborn’s Howell Mountain Cabernets. It’s powerful but never flashy – right up my alley – and YOURS!
