Shiver me timbers — this is freakin’ STELLAR! Seriously, I blinded my better half on this baddie (and she’s a Champagne QUEEN) and her call was vintage Montagne de Reims Champagne from 2018. And — no cap — it was a strong call, ‘cause this tastes pretty DAMN close! Apricots and salted plums, with Bosc pears and preserved lemons…and that’s just to start! The deeply golden juice illuminates the glass, and the energetic mousse ensures the party vibrates at a joyous frequency…somewhere between a birthday celebration and a Bacchanalian feast…that doesn’t stop until the bottle’s dry. Toasted brioche and cultured butter bring on the savoriness of this layered and complex bubbly, joined on the finish by an oyster shell minerality that ensures a crisp, delightful ending. I’ll say it again — you’d be hard pressed to think this was anything but finely made Champagne…at least until you saw the PRICE!
